Announces Award of the Leland Initiative
New
Award Empowers Africans in the Information Age
Silver Spring,
Maryland- July 20, 2002- DC Information Systems Inc. (DCIS), one
of the largest Federal Government Systems Integrator, offering an
extensive range of Information Technology Solutions, announced today
the award of the Professional Services Contract with the US Agency
for International Development (USAID)-known as the Leland Initiative.
The USAID African
Bureau Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Gateway Project is
the core element for implementation of the Leland Initiative (LI):
Empowering Africans in the Information Age. The purpose of the Leland
Initiative is to increase access of African countries to information
on the Internet and other GII technologies which the Africans can
use to promote sustainable development activities, and to make new
technologies more accessible, transferable, and manageable to help
transform the economic and social structure in sub-Saharan Africa
and support the fast-paced sustainable development. USAID Bureau
of Africa has tasked DCIS and its partner Computer Frontiers, Inc.
with providing the technical services and information technology
services in support of the Leland Initiative throughout sub-Saharan
Africa.
